Tulsa, Oklahoma based engineering firm Devco Process Heaters (DPH) is currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Since its beginning, DPH has sold over 110 heaters, issued POs to local fabricators in Tulsa worth over $9 million, and had total sales valued at over $42 million.

Devco Process Heaters began in 2005 as a subsidiary of Devco USA, now both Houston Interests Companies, and has been led by President Roy Simmons since that time. Though primarily serving clientele in the oil and gas industry, DPH has designed and supplied heating systems for a number of other industries including food, petrochemical and refineries.

DPH works with several local fabricators, including BLM, Arc Masters, and Tower Components Inc., to build their heaters. Eddie Michels, President of BLM/Arc Masters said that they have been working with DPH for almost the whole 10 years. According to Mr. Michels, “DPH seems to be going opposite of the trend in the Tulsa area” of business slowing down as the price of oil has dropped, and has been their only customer who has continued to have steady growth in recent months.

According to DPH President, Roy Simmons, “One of the advantages DPH has over most of our competitors is our complete business scope. From design and fabrication, to completed product is all done completely within Tulsa and the surrounding communities. This local advantage allows us to maintain continuity from conception to completion for all of our heating systems. ”

Here are just a few of the ways that Devco Process Heaters has led the industry in the last 10 years:

Tulsa, OK – On May 4th, Tulsa-based engineering firm, Devco, shipped $53 million worth of equipment that was fabricated in Catoosa, OK to Mosul, Iraq. This is the second major shipment from Devco’s $78.6 million order from the Iraqi Ministry of Industry, bound for the Mishraq State Sulfur Mine. This contract, part of ongoing rehabilitation of the mine, is the largest contract awarded by Iraq’s Ministry of Industry in the post-war period. At full capacity, the facility will be able to purify 500,000 tons of sulfur per year, using Submerged Combustion Technology from Crescent Technology, Inc. (CTI) in New Orleans, LA.  The shipment is scheduled to arrive at the jobsite on June 10th, and the Mishraq facility is projected to go online in January, 2015.

Included in this shipment were 43 skids, or modular units, as well as over 200 crates of different piping and structural material. One of the main benefits of this type of modular assembly is that as the trial fit of the entire plant was performed here in Oklahoma, Devco was able to simultaneously begin construction at the site in Iraq, and will be ready to erect the equipment when it arrives in June. Tulsa-based ISTI Plant Services, Devco’s key fabricator to the project, was responsible for full assembly. Working at their shop in Catoosa, ISTI poured new slabs to perform trial fit functions on each area, and as Project Manager Jeff Hutsell described, “did so with great success while maintaining a high level of safety for all involved.”

Financing for the project was backed by loan guarantee from EX-IM Bank. The goal of this type of loan guarantee for EX-IM Bank is to support hundreds of US small business jobs, while also supporting the sulfur and agricultural industries in Iraq. Ex-Im Bank Chairman and President Fred P. Hochberg said in a statement obtained on their website, “By providing a working –capital guarantee, Ex-Im Bank is demonstrating that we are always looking to support U.S. exporters and grow our economy by creating quality jobs here at home.”
