We are proud to announce that Doug Houston, owner and CEO of Houston Interests was selected as one of the 2016 Honorees for The Journal Record’s seventh annual Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEO’s.

Doug graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1976. He has held positions as process project engineer for refinery operations, along with the designing and engineering of numerous refinery natural gas processing plants and sulfur recovery units. Doug has also held various management positions with engineering technical operations.

In 2011, through Houston Interests, Doug began the acquisition and creation of multiple engineering design and technology firms. Since that time, Houston Interests has grown to include eight companies and over 360 employees across four main office locations in the United States, as well as offices in Columbia and Qatar. Activities have included responsibility of project oversight for the design and installation of over $1.2 billion dollars of natural gas processing plants plus turnkey design and installation of the world’s largest Sulfur Melter.

Houston Interests began, and is still managed today, as a family oriented company and was created with this in mind by Doug and his wife Nadine. Together Doug and Nadine have three children, all of whom have a role in the company, along with 5 delightful grandchildren. Bevan Houston, the oldest of Doug and Nadine’s children, is the company’s Senior Director of Business Development and his wife, Evie does the company’s Marketing and Graphic Design. Daughter, Lauren, heads up Corporate Development, and their son-in-law, Jeff Hutsell, who is married to their daughter, Amelia Hutsell, is the Director of Procurement.

Doug’s goal is to create an environment where even those that are not family, feel like they are. A family run business coupled with a dynamic group of employees has made for a successful recipe at Houston Interests. With the known adage from Doug to “Create an environment where our employees can excel to new uncharted levels and are not afraid to dream of what could be in both their personal and business lives”.

We congratulate Doug on this great achievement and look forward to many more years under his leadership.
